Today's post is what I would like to call my Ode to Tim Branscombe.

Waves crash upon the shore shifting sand.
As we walk down the beach so lost hand in hand.
The sun sends its warmth streaming to our faces
and lights the path we stroll full of empty spaces.
What is it that we see off on the horizon?
I don't know. I don't know.
Could it be the guy that does the commercials for horizon?
I don't know. I don't know.
We collect ourselves and continue on.
frolicking across the new mown lawn.
We prance off the sand and leap to our car
knowing that there will be no need to go far.
What is the desire that drives us on?
Oh I know. Oh I know.
Not a Walk to Remember or the Wrath of Khan.
Oh I know. Oh I know.
We arrive at the place we've been seeking all night.
Tim jumps from the car and sprints with all his might.
He's giddy as a school girl excited and squirmin'
He couldn't wait for this film that stars Pee Wee Herman.
So who was the one holding his hand by the sea?
You should know. You should know.
Her name is Joan Branscombe, who else would it be?
You should know. You really should have known.

This is a true story about Tim's childhood that I totally made up. (someday I may reveal the poem about Tim's first time listening to Weird Al) (Just thinking about that story makes me cry.)

Pool Update. Well Uconn is gone as is Villanova which basically means the pool is over for almost everyone. If you have an F next to your name it means you can't get any more points. (it's your final score) Here are the scenarios. If Florida wins their next game Angie Russell wins the pool. If UCLA wins and Florida loses Carrie Fleet wins the pool. If they both lose we will finish with a 3 way tie with Angie, Carter Thompson, and Luke Morrow. If they both win Carrie can still win if UCLA wins the championship. Here are the scores:

First Place - 72 Points - Angie Russell, Carter Thompson F, Lucas Morrow F
Fourth Place - 71 Points - Cathy Spicer F, Duncan Cronk F, Carrie Fleet
Seventh - 68 Points - Darren C F
Eighth Place - 66 Points - Kim P.P. Rayner F
Ninth Place - 64 Points - Tristan Russell, Dave Finlay F
Eleventh Place - 63 Points - Casey Benson
Twelfth Place - 62 Points - Simon McInnis F
Thirteenth Place - 58 Points - Robyn Tatton, Paul Perry F
Fifteenth Place - 57 Points - Scottie Leighton F, Rebecca Perry F
Seventeenth Place - 56 Points - Lynnette Perry F
Eighteenth Place - 55 Points Tyler Bainbridge F, Aaron Perry F, Brandon Melanson F, Catherine Small F
Twenty-Second - 52 Points - Tyrone Gardiner F
Twenty-Third - 51 Points - Dave Ash, Kirk Perry F, Scott Ingalls F
Twenty-Sixth Place - 49 Points - Jason Guptill F, Gus and Allie F, Tim Branscombe F
Twenty-Ninth Place - 48 Points - Jeremy Ellis F
Thirtieth Place - 47 Points - Graham Perry F
Last Place - 42 Points - Dice Picks F

These people have their national champion left:

Carrie Fleet - UCLA
Casey Benson - UCLA

This tournament has been simply amazing.

I just got back from hiking from Dark Harbour to the Whistle. This completes the route I started last fall when I hiked from the Southern Head lighthouse to Dark Harbour and then lost the trail somewhere near money cove. I went with Tim, Manitoba Jeff (if you haven't already check out the link to Jeff's art on the left) and Jeff Leighton. We had a lot of fun climbing over a cliff using ropes to get to Beals Eddy. Then we ate lunch and ran into Phillip Parker. He likes to chop wood. Climbing back up the cliff was fun (if you like torture and pain). We also all found great walking sticks thanks to a helpful beaver. He even peeled it all for us. I've enjoyed the comments on my last post. Nice to see some first time posters. Sorry Paul but your initials are still public domain. Whoever you paid for the patent ripped you off. Well I'm going to take a nap now before I go out and party at the church. Toodles.

P. S. Bears are nice.

There seem to be no blow outs and every game is coming down to last couple of minutes. Here are the standings as of now. Ok Alabama was an amazing trip but at the same time it just makes you ache to go back and keep helping. Myself, Jacob Brooks, Ashley Tucker and Allyson Field got to help Charlie (a man who had been living in a hotel room with his family for 5 months) move back into his house and helped him clean up and remove the debris pile off his front lawn. It felt great to see a happy ending on our first day there but the reality is most of the other people we helped still have a long ways to go to get back to any kind of normalcy. We left Heidi Branscombe behind (on purpose) (sniff sniff) She's going to be working with kids and anything else COI (Christian Outreach International) tells her to do. Lot's of new games, a relationship for me that went sour, 4 Sheetz stops, and time spent with the other 41 people in our group...Priceless. My two favourite signs we saw on the trip were "We Crack Pecans" and "Men at Work When Flashing" . Soooooo many stories I could tell. About 30 of our group had a dance in an IHOP parking lot (the parking lot was full). The guys once again destroying the girls at basketball, Kelly Clarkson dances at gas stations, and me buying a sheetz hat off the head of a sheetz employee. That's all for now and now on to the pool

Points after First Round.

First Place - 25 Points Gus and Allie (Kilo and Rebecca's cats)
Second Place - 24 Points Darren C., Dave Finlay, Lynnette Perry, Lucas Morrow,
Sixth Place - 23 Points Scottie Leighton, Cathy Spicer, Tim Branscombe, Carrie Fleet, Duncan Cronk, Rebecca Perry, Aaron Perry, Scott Ingalls
Fourteenth Place - 22 Points Carter Thompson, Angie Saunders, Paul Perry, Tyrone Gardiner, Jeremy Ellis, Tristan Russell, Simon McInnis,
Twenty-First Place - 21 Points Kirk Perry, Dave Ash, Graham Perry, Catherine Small, Casey Benson,
Twenty -Sixth Place - 19 Points Brandon Melanson, Tyler Bainbridge, Jason Guptill,
Twenty-Ninth Place - 18 Points Dice Picks

This is the most people I've ever had in this pool so thanks to everyone. If you tried to fax in your picks I didn't get them. The fax machine was out of paper. It has paper now so resend them and I will still accept them. You're on your honour that you had your picks done on time.

People that have lost their national champion:

Darren C. - Kansas
Paul Perry - Syracuse
Dice Picks - UNC Wilmington.

This will be my last post for a week and a half. I'm heading with a group of 42 people from Grand Manan down to Grand Bay Alabama to help out with some of the Katrina hurricane relief. Should be an awesome trip. I'll fill you in when I get home and also give you a list of the things I bought at Sheetz on the way down and back. We have a great group of people going with us. Pray that each one that goes will have their lives impacted. (crap serious post again: booger booger on the wall. slipping falling like a ball. A ball that's been flung to the Earth, by a child for what it's worth. Oh where oh where did that booger come from . Not from my dad and not from my Auntie.) (that's better)
